Blackley dye works redevelopment with planners

AN OUTLINE planning application has been submitted to redevelop a former dye works in Blackley, north Manchester.

Blackley Mere Developments, trading as Rolincourt, wants permission to transform the former industrial site, off Blackley New Road, into a residential area with 143 family homes and retirement flats.

The development would include new open space, a riverside walkway and cycleway and improvements for the remaining reservoir, which is used by Broughton Angling Club.

Stephen Barker, from Rolincourt, said: “We have undertaken extensive discussions with the local community and Broughton Angling Club and have been extremely encouraged by the generally positive response to our proposals.”

Andy Frost, director at property consultants Jones Lang La Salle and planning consultant to Rolincourt, said: “The consultancy team has carefully developed an outline masterplan for the site which is both environmentally sustainable and economically viable.

“Clearly this site is no longer suited to the industrial market. A new and more beneficial use should be found which can regenerate the site and unlock wider benefits for the local community.  This is precisely the rationale we have followed.”

A decision on the planning application is expected by May 2009.
