Media Mix: Remembrance Day commission for Made in Manchester & more

RADIO production company Made in Manchester has been commissioned to produce two programmes for BBC Radio 4 focussing on the audio diaries of modern day war artist Xavier Pick.

In War and Paint: the Diary of a Modern Day War Artist follows his experiences when he spent six weeks with the British troops in Iraq as they neared the end of their mission in Basra.

The programmes will air on Remembrance Sunday with the first being broadcast immediately after coverage from the Cenotaph at 11.45am. Part two will go out at 2.45pm that afternoon.

Executive Producer and MIM Creative Director Ashley Byrne said: “As a guest of War artist Xavier Pick at work in Iraqthe Ministry of Defence, Xavier was given 24-hour access and produced hundreds of sketches and paintings of the things he witnessed.

“He also documented his trip on tape and in these programmes Radio 4 listeners are given an audio snap shot of what he felt about what he saw as he toured the war zone.”

Producer Daniel Manicolo added: “In an intimate and moving portrait of day-to-day life for the troops, he captures the spirit of life in Iraq at a crossroads for both the British military and the Iraqi people.”

ITV has launched a new football squad selector on ITV.com that has been developed by Manchester-based digital agency, Great Fridays.

The squad selector allows fans to select teams and share their starting XI with friends before, during and after televised games.

Players can also test their knowledge by completing classic squad line-ups against the clock.

Great Fridays co-founder Rob Noble said: “The new squad selector will be used to create more noise and bigger windows of interactivity around ITV’s football coverage.

“For players, we have produced a slick Flash user interface and a simple game engine which will be a lot of fun to play and share with friends. Every football fan likes to play ‘guess the team’ before the manager does and debate it on Facebook and Twitter. We think it’s going to be the best out there in terms of usability and design.”
