Deal-maker Devitt handed leadership role

NORTH west deal-maker Paul Devitt is to take over as managing partner of national law firm Addleshaw Goddard.

Mr Devitt, who for the majority of his career has worked out of the firm’s Manchester office, is expected to spend more time in London and Leeds as a result of his appointment.

He has been national head of corporate at Addleshaws since 2007, and recently led the Co-operative Group’s £1.56bn takeover of Somerfield. He will take over from Mark Jones, who is moving to the new role of Chairman on May 1.

The position of  Paul Lee, the firm’s long-standing senior partner is unaffected.

Mark Jones said:  “After 17 years, now is the right time to take up a new role and I have no doubt that Paul has the credentials to take on the role of managing partner and lead the business through the next exciting stages of its growth.

“I’m particularly enthused by the opportunity to complement our existing portfolio of `value-added` services with my management experience and lead the design and delivery of a range of income-generating projects.”
