Top Shanghai delegation in Liverpool

A TOP-level delegation of Shanghai government officials will visit Liverpool today to look at multi-billion pound plans to transform the Mersey waterfront.
The five-strong deputation will be led by Mr Yu Li, President of the Shanghai Riverbanks Authority, which is responsible for planning and regeneration along the entire length of both banks of the Huangpu river.
Mr Li has played a key role in spearheading the incredible transformation of the Shanghai waterfront, and met Council Leader Joe Anderson during World Expo 2010 in October. Liverpool was the only UK city to have its own Pavilion at the six month event, attracting 770,000 visitors.
During their visit, the delegation will tour the city and view plans by Peel Holdings to transform both sides of the River Mersey waterfront over the next 30 years through their £10 billion Peel Waters schemes: Liverpool Waters and Wirral Waters.
Council Leader Joe Anderson said: “I am absolutely delighted that Mr Yu Li is coming to Liverpool.
“This is a great opportunity to show how successful we have been in transforming our world famous waterfront, and let them see Peel Holdings amazing plans for the docks.
“I am pleased the delegation have chosen to come here so soon after the end of the World Expo.
“It demonstrates clearly that our investment in the event has made a huge impact and has strengthened the relationship with our sister city.
Lindsey Ashworth, director of development for Peel Holdings, said: “Peel are happy to support and join Liverpool City Council in welcoming this important international delegation to Liverpool and hope that a three-way partnership is formed in the future for the mutual benefit of the city and all involved.”
