Garlock completes sealing deal

A COMPANY which specialises in sealing technology whose clients include the Large Hadron Collider experiment near Geneva has made its second acquisition in three months.

Garlock (Great Britain) has acquired PTM (UK), a manufacturer and distributor of sealing products which specialises in the chemical, pharmaceutical and original equipment manufacturing markets.

The deal, which sees the Elland-based company boost its team by 40 and acquire PTM’s three sites in Stockport and Wrexham, follows the purchase of Northern Gaskets and Mouldings in December.

Batley-based NGM, a distributor of sealing products and manufacturer of gaskets, was acquired to provide Garlock with direct access to end users while benefiting from access to Garlock’s technical and financial resources.

Garlock can trace its history back to 1887 and delivers products into markets including F1 motor sport, mining equipment, oil and gas production and processing and nuclear power generation.

Garlock’s managing director Stuart Phythian attributes the continued success to hard work, a talented team, and membership of Vistage International, the world’s leading chief executives’ organisation.

Mr Phythian joined Vistage in 2007 when he became managing director of Garlock.

He moved back to the UK from the Middle East.

He said: “Vistage has played a vital role in our achievements. In my first months as managing director the group was a critical part of overcoming the challenges the role entailed, particularly before we went ‘live’ on the acquisitions.

“Garlock’s vision is to become the global leader in industrial sealing solutions and being able to benefit from the experience of other business leaders through Vistage is a huge asset as we seek to make that goal a reality.”

Garlock is the UK subsidiary of Garlock Sealing Technologies, a leader in high-performance fluid sealing products.

The company has around 20 global operations employing more than 1,700 people and a distributor network that covers 75 countries.

Its manufacturing facilities in the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America collectively produce the broadest range of fluid sealing products designed specifically for industrial applications.
