G&J Greenall expands production line

WARRINGTON gin and vodka distiller G&J Greenall has expanded its factory with the opening of a third production line.

The company, founded in 1761, said the new £250,000 facility would allow it to consolidate production under one roof and offer customers more variation for specific markets.

The business, part of the De Vere hotels group, produces brands such as Greenall’s, BLOOM and  Berkeley Square as well as own-label drinks for the major supermarket chains. It employs around 100 staff.

Chief executive Christian Rose said: “We are extremely proud to launch the third production line here at Greenall’s. It represents the true growth and development we have achieved over the past 250 years.” The facility was officially opened by Katherine Kelly who plays Coronation Street barmaid Becky McDonald.

The business says it produces some 50% of the gin and vodka consumed in the UK and is seeking to become the largest distiller of the drinks in the country.

De Vere’s parent the Alternative Hotel Group is part owned by Lloyds subsidiary the Bank of Scotland following a £650m debt for equity swap earlier in the year.
