The huge contrast in relegation from the English Premier League to the Championship has been laid bare in Burnley FC\u2019s latest accounts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Burnley FC Holdings has filed its financial results for the year ended July 31, 2026, which included the club\u2019s relegation from the Premier League during season 2025\/26.<\/span><\/p>\n

Turnover reached a record \u00a3144.5m compared with \u00a371.7m in 2025, driven by Premier League broadcasting and commercial income.<\/span><\/p>\n

Match income was \u00a310.258m, up from \u00a39.095m the previous year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Television rights generated a huge \u00a3118.884m, against \u00a355.219m in the Championship.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other commercial activities represented \u00a312.579m of the total turnover, up from \u00a34.358m.<\/span><\/p>\n

The pre-tax loss for the year was \u00a39.551m, which was down from \u00a329.717m the previous year.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, it could have been much worse as that included \u00a338.8m from Everton, linked to the Blues’ profit and sustainability breach in 2021\/22 which was judged to have affected Burnley’s chances of avoiding relegation that season.<\/p>\n

But this payout is still subject to an appeal by Everton, which is due to be heard next January.<\/p>\n

Burnley’s latest accounts have been published six months earlier than expected, which means the club has avoided potentially posting record losses due to the inclusion of the Everton money.<\/p>\n

Total staff numbers during the season rose from 408 to 427, and staff costs jumped from \u00a382.263m to \u00a3123.118m, which included wages of \u00a3107.245m, against \u00a372.381m the previous season, giving a wage\/turnover ratio of 85.20%, compared with 114.65%, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

The club sold several player registrations contributing to a profit on disposal of \u00a336.2m, against \u00a359m in 2025, in this accounting period.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the year end, borrowings had fallen from \u00a3142.4m to \u00a386.2m and net debt had more than halved from \u00a3129.5m to \u00a362.9m.<\/span><\/p>\n

The balance owed to the club by its parent company fell from \u00a381m to \u00a33.3m, following a net repayment of 377.7m funded by new investment from the ownership group.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company had net current liabilities of \u00a387.081m, against \u00a361.569m in 2025, with this position at any given point in time impacted by player trading, refinancing of existing borrowing facilities and receipts from the parent company.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the company has loan facilities that expire in January 2027 and August 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n

As at the date of approval of these financial statements, on November 2, 2026, these balances were \u00a324.285m and \u00a321.609m, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

The directors said in the accompanying commentary around the financial results that they are in negotiations to refinance and increase these facilities, however at the point of signing the financial statements these facilities had not been formally agreed.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the event the facilities are not renewed the company says it would have to raise additional finance to repay the amounts due.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the directors have assessed the financial performance and are satisfied that the company will have sufficient resources available to be able to meet its obligations as they become due and, therefore, remain confident that it will continue to be a going concern.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsequent to the close of the reporting period, the club said it acquired a number of players at an initial cost of \u00a311.942m and sold a number of players for initial proceeds of \u00a334.100m.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, subsequent to the close of the reporting period, the club parted company with head coach, Nicky Hayen, with the club now sitting in the bottom three of the Championship, on 10 points following last night\u2019s (November 3) 1-1 draw at QPR.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
