agrees sale of former school and playing field sites to create 230 homes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sefton Council\u2019s Cabinet has today (November 5) approved the disposal of five council-owned sites as part of the Sefton 2030 initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It says this marks a key step forward in plans to deliver around 230 affordable homes across the borough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sefton 2030 is a long term partnership between Sefton Council and The Sovini Group that will help to deliver 1,000 affordable homes by the end of the decade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Following today\u2019s Cabinet approval, the council will now move forward with conditional land sale agreements for five Phase 1 development sites in Southport, Bootle, Netherton and Seaforth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The five sites are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Back Forest Road, Southport<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Former Bootle High School, Netherton<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Former Dale Acre School site, Harps Croft, Netherton<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Former St Raymond\u2019s playing field, Netherton<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Former Rawson Road School site, Seaforth<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Together, the sites have the potential to provide around 230 affordable homes, helping to meet growing demand for housing across Sefton.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All development proposals have been submitted to the council\u2019s planning department and will continue to be subject to the planning process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents will have opportunities to review proposals and comment before planning decisions are made.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The homes delivered through Sefton 2030 will include a range of affordable housing options, including supported housing, social rent properties allocated through Property Pool Plus and homes aimed at helping people onto the housing ladder.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cllr Paulette Lappin, deputy leader of Sefton Council and cabinet member for regeneration, economy and skills, said: &#8220;There is a real need for more affordable homes in Sefton, with around 3,000 households currently registered for housing in the borough and more than 200 households living in temporary accommodation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Today\u2019s decision means we can take the next step towards delivering around 230 affordable homes on these five sites.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She added: \u201cSubject to planning approval, these developments will help more local people access the quality, affordable homes they need while ensuring residents continue to have opportunities to have their say as proposals progress.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alongside new homes, Sefton 2030 is expected to bring wider benefits to communities through apprenticeships, jobs, training opportunities and support for local businesses through construction and supply chains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The partnership will also continue to support projects that strengthen communities and create opportunities for care-experienced young people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Moreover, the council is receiving full market value for the sites in question, it said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cllr Phil Hart, Sefton Council\u2019s cabinet member for housing, said: &#8220;This approval is an important milestone for Sefton 2030 and demonstrates our commitment to creating opportunities for people and places across the borough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;By working with The Sovini Group, we can deliver much needed affordable homes while also creating jobs, apprenticeships and investment that will benefit local communities for years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Sefton 2030 is about more than building homes.
