TWO enterprising accountants who launched their own business after leaving an established regional firm, are celebrating their fifth anniversary.<\/p>\n

Giles Mattocks and David Grindley launched Mattocks Grindley in St Helens and now employ five staff with plans to grow their team further in the next 12 months.<\/p>\n

The pair, who met while working at Liverpool and Manchester firm Chadwick (now Mazars), say they have been liberated by the opportunity of running their own firm, and have built a successful business based on partner-led client service to family-owned and private firms and individuals.<\/p>\n

Giles Mattocks, pictured on the left<\/em>, said: “We have not looked back, it has been a great move and we have both enjoyed running our own firm. <\/p>\n

“We have done some really interesting work – increasingly around shareholder valuations – and we are looking forward to more growth and recruiting and training more people.”<\/p>\n

He said the pair had not been fazed by regulation and red tape, that can \"mattockssometimes prove to be an unwelcome hindrance for small business owner-managers.<\/p>\n

“It’s the kind of thing we advise our clients on, so it has not been problematic.”

David Grindley added: “We have had good growth every year and 90% of this has come from recommendations and referrals from our existing clients. With the growth we have planned I expect we’ll be looking to take on another two staff in the next year or so.<\/p>\n

“The plan for the next five years is very much for more of the same\u00a0 – offering a good service to our clients and investing heavily in developing our people, all of whom are either qualified or are training to be qualified.”<\/p>\n
