PayByPhone car parking app rolls out major upgrade in Manchester city centre

Car parking in Manchester city centre is set to get quicker and easier as a major upgrade to the PayByPhone parking app kicks in.

The new upgrade, being rolled out across Manchester by PayByPhone, allows drivers to pay for their parking session without the need to create an account.

The popular parking app was first rolled out in Manchester in 2011 and now gains an average of 5,000 first-time users in the city each month. PayByPhone is also currently available in 206 on-street locations and 154 car parks in Manchester.

A new single screen registration process as well as a ‘favourite spot’ option means drivers can now park and pay in less than 30 seconds from finding a space.

It also enables drivers to extend their parking session from anywhere if they underestimate the length of their stay which reduces the risk of getting a parking ticket.

Kevin Bird, commercial director of PayByPhone UK, said:

“This upgrade will encourage more people to use our app in Manchester and play a role in attracting more people to the city who will stay for longer. The benefits of cashless parking provide a win for the local economy, a win for us as a business and a win for drivers.

“We’ve worked closely with our clients in Manchester to ensure that these updates are ready in time for the Christmas increase in traffic to the city and we’re certain businesses and visitors to the city will see the benefits.

“Cashless parking is convenient for drivers and proven to create significant cost savings for councils and car park owners because of the reduced cost of maintaining a traditional ticket machine.”

PayByPhone will be  giving away a series of prizes to people who refer the app to a friend or family member as well as giving away spot prizes for those who park with PayByPhone on certain days in December.
