David D Murray is the managing director of Murray Capital, responsible for leading the business and managing the family’s assets.

Headquartered in Edinburgh and investing for more than 50 years, the portfolio includes estates such as Edinburgh’s Garden District, an investment division which allocates capital directly and through funds, a leading supplier of metals and steel products, and a wine division which includes a French vineyard, a major import business, and Scotland’s oldest wine merchants brand.

David joined the family business more than 20 years ago and in 2021 he and his brother Keith – who runs the wine business – took over from their father, Sir David Murray, with a mandate to extend the family’s record of patient, long-term investments across multiple sectors.

The family created a charitable foundation in 2017 and directs a percentage of profits from Murray Capital to the family’s foundation each year, to fund support for several different local charities. David is also an ambassador for Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Edinburgh and a non-executive director of National Trust for Scotland Enterprises. He is a past chair of the Institute of Family Business in Scotland and a member of the leadership network YPO Scotland.

He will talk about what’s happening across the firm, including the progress of its large property developments and investment pipeline, along with views on the economy, the challenges and strengths of family office structure, and what the future holds.
