The UK Government has pledged up to \u00a39m to support the future of Mossmorran, following the ethylene plant\u2019s closure.<\/p>\n

The funding is contingent on suitable investment proposals being brought forward and approved, and appropriate commercial partners being identified.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made as the Fife Council-led taskforce met yesterday, bringing together local elected representatives, employers, the council and the Scottish Government to support the plant\u2019s workforce into future employment.<\/p>\n

Since ExxonMobil ceased operations at the plant<\/a>, the UK Government has marketed the site to potential investors and guaranteed workers a job interview at the Grangemouth plant – which is supported by a \u00a3120m government investment.<\/p>\n

Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander said: “We know this has been an incredibly difficult time for the plant\u2019s workers and their families, which is why the UK Government is stepping in.<\/p>\n

“We are determined to do all we can to look after the plant\u2019s workers, ensure a successful future for the site itself, and so mitigate the impact on the wider Fife community.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government has stumped up \u00a33.9m to support infrastructure development at the Ardersier Energy Transition Facility in the Inner Moray Firth.<\/p>\n

Navantia UK receives \u00a32.05m towards a \u00a35m project at the Arnish yard in Stornoway, creating more than 75 jobs. New plant and equipment should enable the port to handle larger renewable energy projects and cut energy use.<\/p>\n

Additional investment of \u00a3965,000 in pre-construction work will prepare Arnish for further development. Navantia\u2019s workforce, which includes 30 apprentices, is forecast to go up from 150 to 250 over the next decade.<\/p>\n

Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes said: “Offshore wind is one of the biggest economic opportunities Scotland has ever had – these investments will significantly boost Scotland\u2019s clean energy sector, support new well-paid, skilled jobs in Stornoway and boost economic opportunity at Ardersier.”<\/p>\n

Navantia UK chief executive Donato Martinez said: “This support will help accelerate our investment programme at Arnish, a facility with a strong track record in complex offshore fabrication and a highly skilled workforce.”<\/p>\n

Ian Cobban, interim chief executive of Ardersier Port\u2019s owner Haventus, added: “The alignment of national, regional and local government in Scotland, in support of the renewable energy industry, has been of critical value to Haventus, as we developed our facility.<\/p>\n

“Ardersier now enters its operational phase at a moment when the UK\u2019s security of energy supply is a focus of attention.”<\/p>\n
