MacArtney has appointed Donald Macleod as its new managing director for the UK and Ireland.

The Danish underwater technology group has served the UK and Ireland since 1999, supporting the marine, offshore, ocean science and naval sectors from a base in Dyce, near Aberdeen.

Macleod spent more than six years with Dutch marine contractor Boskalis, latterly as quality and transformation director for its offshore energy division. Prior to that, he was managing director of Highland Fuels and operations director at PDi.

“Throughout my career, I’ve worked alongside suppliers and customers, and good relationships come down to open communication, responsiveness and reliable products,” commented Macleod. “I see opportunities to build on MacArtney’s position as a trusted partner to the energy sector, while exploring further growth in defence and ocean science.”

He will work with Paul McCafferty, group chief commercial officer, who joined the company in March.

Niels Peter Christiansen, chief executive of MacArtney, said: “The UK and Ireland are a key market, and Aberdeen is central to how we serve the North Sea and beyond.

“Donald’s background gives him first-hand insight into the challenges and considerations our customers face, putting him in an ideal position to grow the business.”

MacArtney’s Aberdeen team of 55 works from a purpose-built 3,000 sq m facility with cable assembly and moulding workshops, a 1,000 sq m warehouse, and a hydrostatic pressure test facility that simulates depths of up to 6,000 m.

Founded in 1978 by Martin and Winnie MacArtney and still family-owned, MacArtney designs, manufactures, supplies and services the connectivity and data acquisition equipment and systems that link surface and seabed. Headquartered in Esbjerg, it employs around 500 people across 21 operations and sales offices in Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
