West Ranga Property Group, Lujo Properties and Lochalsh & Skye Housing Association have submitted a planning application for a Tesco supermarket on the Isle of Skye.<\/p>\n

Set to be the first Tesco on the island, the proposed store on Woodpark Road in Portree should bring a multi-million pound investment and around 100 new jobs; excluding temporary roles during construction.<\/p>\n

The site will comprise a 32,356 sq ft supermarket, together with a petrol station, service yard and customer car parking, on a site of approximately 4.8 acres. The new store will have a dedicated home shopping facility, with vans able to deliver to properties across Skye.<\/p>\n

Alastair Dickie, director of the joint venture West Ranga Skye, explained that if permission is granted by the Highland Council, work could start next summer, with a projected store opening near the end 2028.<\/p>\n

Matthew Price, acquisitions director at Tesco, commented: \u201cWe are excited about the potential to open the first Tesco store and petrol station in the Isle of Skye, as we currently only serve the local community through our online grocery home shopping business.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe look forward to the opportunity to provide great value and choice for residents and visitors in the Isle of Skye and surrounding islands and villages, in a central and well accessed location.\u201d<\/p>\n

Councillor John Finlayson added: \u201cAs was evidenced in the survey that took place in 2025, the addition of a new store which will provide more variety will be welcomed by many people and will also support the concerns previously expressed about the stocking pressures sometimes placed on existing retailers on the island.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
