The Institute of Directors (IoD) has official begun looking for a new leader in Scotland.

A candidate information pack seen by TheBusinessDesk reveals that the salary is up to £79,000 depending on experience and applicants are expected to have experience of “shaping and delivering strategic and operational plans, ideally at national or regional level”.

The move follows the resignation of incumbent director Catherine McWilliam, which was announced last month and is set to take effect at the end of November. After five years with the organisation – four in the leadership position – she wrote on LinkedIn that there’s “an exciting new opportunity” to move into.

IoD Scotland chair Julie Ashworth commented: “We are looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with the energy to make things happen – you will be commercially astute, an engaging communicator and a skilled relationship-builder, as comfortable contributing to a policy discussion as welcoming a new member.”

The job spec noted that the IoD team “has clear direction” and the leader would remain connected to operational delivery, adding that “continuity is maintained through the forthcoming chair transition”. This included supporting the recruitment of a new chair – replacing Ashworth – by next June.
