{"id":8863,"date":"2026-11-05T07:59:15","date_gmt":"2026-11-05T07:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/scotland\/?p=8863"},"modified":"2026-11-05T07:59:15","modified_gmt":"2026-11-05T07:59:15","slug":"diageo-reports-sales-growth-amid-challenging-markets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/scotland\/news\/8863-diageo-reports-sales-growth-amid-challenging-markets","title":{"rendered":"Diageo reports sales growth amid &#8216;challenging&#8217; markets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Diageo has reported net sales up 1.2% to $4.9bn, with &#8220;positive organic growth partly offset by unfavourable foreign exchange and the impact of disposals&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The drinks group&#8217;s trading update for the first quarter of its fiscal year 2027 also showed organic net sales growing 0.6%, excluding the impact of selling shares in East African Breweries.<\/p>\n<p>Latin America and Caribbean, and Asia Pacific, delivered mid-single-digit growth, while India and Europe, Middle East and Africa were up low-single-digit. In North America, organic net sales declined mid-single-digit, reflecting &#8220;continued market softness&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of drinks categories, whisky, Guinness and Smirnoff ready-to-drink products showed growth during the period.<\/p>\n<p>The full-year outlook is for broadly flat organic net sales growth, as North America net sales are expected to decline mid-single-digit, &#8220;assuming the market is down circa 3% with improving share performance compared to 2026&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>However, Diageo expects organic operating profit growth up low-to mid-single-digit, including around 40% of the $850m cost savings from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/scotland\/news\/6431-diageo-responds-to-falling-profit-with-1bn-cost-saving-plan\">previously-announced<\/a> operating framework changes and around a quarter of the $150m cost savings from supply chain initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Chief executive Dave Lewis commented that the period was in line with expectations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were pleased with the growth across LAC, EMEA, APAC and India,&#8221;
