Everyman takes over two cinemas after the collapse of Empire

Two Tivoli cinemas have been taken over by Everyman

Everyman has bought the two Tivoli cinemas in Bath and Cheltenham, five months after its owner Empire collapsed into administration.

Everyman, which has 44 cinemas across the UK, will take over operation of the venues with immediate effect.

Alex Scrimgeour, chief executive of Everyman Media Group, said: “We are delighted to announce the acquisition of these cinemas in the historic city of Bath and the vibrant town of Cheltenham.

“We pride ourselves on providing an elevated cinema experience, making these venues a terrific addition to the Everyman portfolio.”

Empire Cinemas was created in 2005 as a result of competition concerns caused by the mergers of Cineworld and UGC, and Odeon and UCI.

But the 14-cinema group failed in July, with the loss of hundreds of jobs.
