Bristol manufacturer secures £4.8m fund to support space research

A Bristol-based firm, iCOMAT, has received £4.8m in funding from the UK Space Agency.

This spin-out company from the University of Bristol, supported by the NatWest Accelerator programme, specialises in patented lightweighting solutions for the aerospace, automotive, and space industries.

iCOMAT’s £4.8m funding is part of the UK Space Agency’s broader £50m investment fund.

This initiative aims to support the development of space research, manufacturing, and testing facilities across the UK, generating new jobs and strengthening the country’s space capabilities and services for international investors.

iCOMAT is among the 12 applications nationwide who have been granted the fund.

In the South West, iCOMAT will establish a new research, development, and production facilities.

This initiative aims to create new job opportunities, attract talent to the region, and improve material accessibility for businesses in the market.

It is anticipated that the operational phase will bring about an additional 60 roles in the region.
