Law firm appoints new technology partner

Law firm TLT has appointed Michelle Sally as a partner in the technology, intellectual property and data team to support clients in the digital sector.

Working from the firm’s London office, Michelle’s appointment boosts TLT’s national growth and strengthens the breadth of experience available to clients.

Michelle has joined TLT from Ashurst, where she advised on commercial contracts and corporate transactions for clients in the digital sector, with a focus on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), advertising technology, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Web3.

In addition to her digital sector expertise, Michelle has also developed a reputation as one of the go-to lawyers in the country for outsourcing transactions in financial services and other areas and, in 2022, she was awarded the Global Sourcing Association’s Rising Star Award. She has worked alongside a variety of clients, ranging from start-ups to household names. Some of Michelle’s recent work includes advising a leading global transport technology company on its new UK product and service launches and advising an artificial intelligence music tech-based business on its strategic mandate with various car manufacturers for the inclusion of its technology.

At TLT, Michelle will be working closely with James Touzel, Gareth Oldale and the other partners across the technology, IP and data team to continue building on the growth which the firm is already experiencing in technology outsourcing and transactions.

Gareth Oldale, partner in TLT’s technology, IP and data team , said: “The digital sector is experiencing a period of transition, uncertainty and huge opportunity, as new technologies continue to emerge and develop while legislation struggles to keep up. Our team’s continued strategic growth will help us to manage the increasing demand for legal services in the sector. We are all pleased to welcome Michelle to the team – her experience with emerging technologies such as AI will help support our clients in an evolving legal landscape and improve the services we offer.”

Michelle added: “It’s an exciting time to be joining TLT during an exceptional period of growth with new clients and a growing team in London. As well as the firm’s impressive roster of clients in the digital sector, I was impressed by TLT’s commitments to flexible working and people-initiatives that have been introduced in the last year. To me, TLT stood out from the crowd and I’m looking forward to supporting a firm that has something a little different to offer its people and its clients.”
