Residents warned to stay indoors as large fire breaks out at warehouse
Avon Fire and Rescue Service have been called out to a large fire at a warehouse in Avonmouth.
The service said it has 16 appliances in attendance at the warehouse fire in Avonmouth.
People who live and work in the local area are being advised to keep their windows and doors shut.
Witnesses said the fire had broken out at the Evri parcel distribution centre.
Footage online showed flames at the warehouse in Avonmouth and a large plume of dark smoke above the M5 motorway.
People were being advised by the fire service to avoid the local area where possible particularly around St Andrews Road, Avonmouth.
According to reports from the scene there was heavy traffic building up on the roads around Avonmouth,
Several hours earlier the fire service we called to an incident on the same motorway.
Crews from Avonmouth, Portishead, Patchway, Pill and Southmead were called to reports of a lorry fire at 14:51 on the M5 Junction 18-19.
Upon arrival, crews located a fire on a HGV trailer.
Crews used four breathing apparatus, two high pressure hose reel, one thermal imaging camera, one extension ladder and cutting gear to extinguish the fire.
Two lanes of the northbound stretch of the motorway were closed for a short time.
