Law firm sets up new Bristol intellectual property practice following strategic hire

Law firm Freeths has further bolstered its full-service intellectual property (IP) and media offering with the appointment of Dan Cahill.

Joining as managing associate from Ashfords, Cahill will establish the firm’s practice in Bristol.

As a chartered trade mark attorney with more than 12 years experience working in IP, Cahill has considerable experience in assisting clients with all issues relating to their trade marks and intellectual property rights, both nationally and internationally.

His expertise involves all aspects of UK, European and International trade mark protection and portfolio management, including strategy, clearance, filing, prosecution, IPO proceedings, renewal, register maintenance and watching. Dan also advises and assists clients with all aspects of global registered design protection and design portfolio management.

Cahill is accustomed to dealing with copyright issues and has helped many high-profile clients across all sectors, including fashion, luxury goods, e-commerce, food and drink, entertainment, software and technology sectors.

Simon Barker, head of intellectual property and media at Freeths, said: “Dan brings with him a wealth of diverse experience, strengthening our team’s full-service capabilities and furthering our ability to provide excellent service to our clients across the UK and abroad on all aspects of Intellectual Property and with deep sectoral knowledge. Our IP & Media offering at Freeths leads the way amongst competitors and I’m confident, that with Dan’s knowledge and expertise, will continue to grow.”

Cahill’s hire comes just months after Freeths appointed director of patents, Richard Ellis, making the team a full-service provider of intellectual property services.

Adam Watson, managing partner of Freeths Bristol, said: “The influx of new talent this year has reinforced and heightened our legal contribution within the region. As we establish a new service line in Bristol with Dan’s appointment, we welcome the opportunity to further support new and existing clients.”

Cahill added: “I am absolutely delighted to join Freeths’ excellent IP and Media team, at such an exciting time for the firm and in particular its Bristol office. I look forward to working with Simon Barker to help further bolster the IP team’s offering to clients both regionally and nationally, to assist in the rapid growth and expansion of the Bristol office under Adam Watson, and to support the firm’s clients with managing all aspects of their IP and trade mark requirements, in what is ever becoming a more complex area of law.”
