A mansion near Bristol used as a filming location for productions including ITV’s Sanditon, Netflix’s Bridgerton and BBC’s Doctor Who has hit the market with a £5.5m price tag.

Leigh Court in Abbots Leigh, is the headquarters of regional business organisation Business West and Bristol Chamber of Commerce. It has been brought to the market by Alder King property consultants, who previously acquired the property for the current owners 21 years ago.

Set within 22 acres of parkland and woodlands, Leigh Court is a Grade II listed country house about three-and-a-half miles from Bristol city centre.

The original Leigh Court, built in 1558 by Sir George Norton, was demolished in 1812 following its sale to Sir Philip John Miles. The Miles family retained ownership until 1915, when it was sold to Rev. Burden of Clevedon Hall. In 2004 it was acquired by Business West.

The main house provides approximately 26,157 sq ft of accommodation arranged over four floors. It is currently also operating as a wedding, corporate and events venue.

Built in the Palladian style, it is constructed from Bath stone with elegant Greek Revival interiors that reflect its rich heritage.

Possible future uses include a hotel, a private residential home, apartments or a retirement living scheme, according to Bristol-headquartered Alder King, which is offering Leigh Court for sale freehold.

Its 1.27-acre car park could also present an opportunity for further new-build development to enhance the site’s offering, subject to planning, said Alder King.

Simon Price, partner at Alder King and acting agent for the sale, added: “Leigh Court offers a rare opportunity to acquire a property with significant historical and architectural value in a well-connected location. Its scale and flexibility make it an interesting prospect for a range of potential buyers.”
