Bakery chain rolls out expansion

Independent bakery chain Cornish Bakery’s expansion plans are on a roll after a robust trading period.

The business, based in Paulton, Somerset, reported strong trading across its existing 51 UK outlets during its 2021-22 financial year, with five new store openings and a further six bakeries due to open in the first half of 2023.

So far in 2022 and 2023 alone law firm Clarke Willmott has advised on the opening of new Cornish Bakery stores in Bakewell, Bury St. Edmunds, Beverley, Stamford, Rye, Whitby and Truro, and renovated and/or renewed stores in Gloucester, York and Bideford, Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth and Gloucester Quays.

Clarke Willmott is also continuing to assist with new stores set to open in Harrogate, Salisbury, Canterbury and Cheltenham, with more to follow.

The team has been led by Joe Campbell, partner in the commercial property team at Clarke Willmott in Southampton.

“Clarke Willmott is pleased to have supported Cornish Bakery for over ten years with legal work and assistance across all property aspects,” says Campbell.

“I am personally delighted to have been directly dealing with Cornish Bakery since joining Clarke Willmott over six years ago and have advised on new leases and renewals across the company’s property portfolio. It’s great to work with and help support really great people and such a dynamic, growing business.”
