Bristol has launched a screen tourism campaign to drive visitors to filming locations used in productions including Wolf Hall, Rivals and Bridgerton.

Visit West has partnered with SetJetters, a mobile app that maps over 50 scenes from high-profile productions filmed across the region.

The campaign includes a short film called Starring Bristol, which stitches together scenes filmed at locations including Bristol Cathedral, Queen Square, Clifton Suspension Bridge and the SS Great Britain.

Kathryn Davis, chief executive of Visit West, said: “Bristol and Bath’s iconic architecture and landscapes are often the star of the show, and we’re delighted to highlight some of the region’s most recognisable filming locations in the SetJetters app and the Starring Bristol short video.

The free app enables users to stand where scenes were filmed and capture side-by-side recreations using its ShotSync camera feature.

It includes locations from Wonka, Doctor Who, Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death, The Outlaws, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Skins and Stan & Ollie.

The Starring Bristol film was produced by Bristol-based Mint Cake Productions using local actors and crew.

Helen Godwin, Mayor of the West of England, said: “Making films and TV shows here has a huge impact for local jobs and businesses. Tens of millions of pounds are added to our economy each year thanks to incredible productions, including Rivals, Wonka, Bridgerton, and Wolf Hall, being filmed here in our region.”

VisitBritain statistics show that seven in ten people who have taken a trip in the UK within the last decade have visited a film or TV location.

Nine in ten people considering a trip to the UK say they would be interested in visiting a film or TV location during a future visit.

Patricia Yates, chief executive of VisitBritain, added: “It’s great to see Visit West tapping into the power of screen tourism to put the region’s outstanding visitor offer centre-stage through its new Starring Bristol showreel and SetJetters app.”
