{"id":16984,"date":"2024-10-24T07:04:07","date_gmt":"2024-10-24T06:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/south-west\/?p=16984"},"modified":"2024-10-24T07:04:07","modified_gmt":"2024-10-24T06:04:07","slug":"entrepreneur-to-embark-on-new-voyage-sailing-around-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/south-west\/news\/16984-entrepreneur-to-embark-on-new-voyage-sailing-around-the-world","title":{"rendered":"Entrepreneur to embark on new voyage &#8211; sailing around the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coldstore installations expert Simon Tysoe has announced his retirement from business and the start of a new voyage \u2013 an 18-month round-the-world sailing trip.<\/p>\n<p>Tysoe left school at 16 and learned his trade as an electrician and panel fitter before founding several successful companies around his home city of Leicester, including S Tysoe Installations, Midlands Access Platforms, TPS Hire and a substantial property portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>His main company, S Tysoe Installations was bought in March 2021 by The P &amp; M Group, the parent company of Gloucester-based coldstore construction and maintenance specialists ISD Solutions.<\/p>\n<p>After a three-year transition period Mr Tysoe, aged 61, has now retired, saying he is confident the company he founded is \u201cin good hands\u201d. His other business interests will continue to be managed in his absence by staff and associates.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Tysoe\u2019s retirement gift to himself is the commissioning of a cutting-edge, 60ft Oyster sailing yacht, christened \u2018Distraction 3\u2019, in which he will sail around the world for the next year and a half.<\/p>\n<p>The boat will set sail from Ipswich to Guernsey before a potentially stormy few days to Gran Canaria, where the trans-Atlantic voyage, expected to take around 18 days, begins in earnest.<\/p>\n<p>A crew of four will then see Distraction 3 sail from the Caribbean island of St Lucia in early January as part of a flotilla of some 200 boats in the World ARC adventure race for 2025-26.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/donate.giveasyoulive.com\/corporate\/the-p-and-m-group\/charity-sail-across-the-world\">While away, Tysoe hopes to raise over \u00a3200,000 for a select group of good causes \u2013 The Lord\u2019s Taverners cricket charity and conservation programmes Mareco and Project Seagrass.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve sailed the Atlantic before,\u201d he said, \u201cand covered some 40,000 nautical miles in trips over the years. But this is going to be my biggest challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m an adventurer \u2013 I always have been, whether it\u2019s mountaineering, helicopter flying, or rally car driving. Now I\u2019m retired I\u2019m lucky enough to be able to take on this journey and raise some funds for charities, doing valuable work tied in with The P &amp; M Group\u2019s environmental and social values.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited about the trip and we\u2019re well prepared. It\u2019s going to be quite a journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tony Wall, managing director of The P &amp; M Group, said: \u201cWe\u2019re really excited for Simon and wish him all the best for the next 18 months.
