A University of Bath spin-out provided the AI-powered performance technology behind TeamGB’s record-breaking medal haul in bobsleigh and skeleton at the recent Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n
ForceTeck, founded by biomechanics expert Dr Dario Cazzola and Roy Shubhabrata, uses computer vision and artificial intelligence to analyse athlete performance from video footage in minutes rather than days.<\/p>\n
The British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association was among the company’s first clients.<\/p>\n
Dr Cazzola said: “In a world where minute improvements are so important, our technology can provide those insights which could be the difference between winning and losing, winning gold, silver or bronze or even winning a local sports league.<\/p>\n
“We’re so proud of the whole skeleton team and are in awe of the record medal haul they achieved for TeamGB.”<\/p>\n
Mike Muckelt, strength and conditioning coach for the British Skeleton team, said: “In Forceteck, we had a really powerful tool that helped us understand why our athletes achieve what they achieve, and what we need to do to make them better.”<\/p>\n
The company was spun out of the University of Bath in 2023 and is a member of SETsquared Bath. Dr Cazzola, a reader in biomechanics at the university, moved to the UK from Milan in 2012.<\/p>\n
ForceTeck’s platform allows teams to record athlete performance, upload video to the cloud and receive lab-grade biomechanical analysis within minutes.<\/p>\n
The company raised more than \u00a3550,000 in equity investment last year. Dr Cazzola was also awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowship.<\/p>\n
Shubhabrata said: “We are seeing a growing demand from professional sport for solutions that are both scientifically robust and operationally practical. Our platform is built to deliver elite level analysis quickly and reliably, without disrupting the training environment.”<\/p>\n
