{"id":47503,"date":"2026-10-11T08:42:48","date_gmt":"2026-10-11T07:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/south-west\/?p=47503"},"modified":"2026-10-11T08:42:48","modified_gmt":"2026-10-11T07:42:48","slug":"swindon-council-explores-partnership-with-bmw-mini-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/south-west\/news\/47503-swindon-council-explores-partnership-with-bmw-mini-plant","title":{"rendered":"Swindon council explores partnership with BMW MINI plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Swindon Borough Council is exploring closer collaboration with BMW Group&#8217;s MINI Plant Swindon to strengthen local supply chains and support advanced manufacturing growth.<\/p>\n<p>Council leader Cllr Gary Sumner visited the facility, which supports around 600 jobs locally, to discuss the plant&#8217;s future plans and potential partnership opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The site, which has a manufacturing heritage dating back to 1954, is described by the company as one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Gary Sumner, leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: &#8220;BMW MINI is one of Swindon&#8217;s manufacturing success stories and a hugely important employer for our borough. It was great to meet Roger and the team to hear about their plans for the future and learn more about the innovation taking place at the site.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8220;We want Swindon to be the best place to do business, and strong relationships with employers like BMW are vital if we are to attract investment, support local jobs and create opportunities for residents. We look forward to continuing to work together to support the long-term growth of manufacturing in Swindon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The discussions focused on strengthening local supply chains, creating opportunities for local businesses, and supporting the long-term success of advanced manufacturing in the borough.<\/p>\n<p>BMW&#8217;s investment in automated production has helped strengthen the plant&#8217;s long-term future and supports production for MINI models manufactured alongside the company&#8217;s Oxford operations.<\/p>\n<p>The plant also works with local schools and colleges to promote STEM education, invests in biodiversity on site, and backs local sports and cultural initiatives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leader visits 600-job facility to discuss supply chain growth<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":26,"featured_media":47505,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1,7,78],"coauthors":[160],"class_list":["post-47503","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-news","category-manufacturing","category-sponsored","tag-featured-story","tag-wiltshire"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
