Dewatering at the South Crofty tin project in Cornwall has passed 400 metres below surface as construction activity accelerates across the site.<\/p>\n

AIM-listed Cornish Metals opened a new workshop and stores facility at Bartles Foundry in September, giving the mine permanent maintenance, engineering and storage space. The \u00a36.8m project was part-funded by a \u00a34.2m grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, managed by Cornwall Council.<\/p>\n

A service winder has been mounted at the New Cook\u2019s Kitchen shaft, while the production winder building is complete and the winder is on site awaiting installation.<\/p>\n

Chief executive Don Turvey said: \u201cAcross the site, the installation of the service winder and completion of the production winder building mark a visible shift from preparation to construction at the NCK shaft.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dewatering and shaft refurbishment are expected to reach the 400-level, about 730 metres below surface, in the first half of 2027.<\/p>\n

Bulk excavation for the process plant is substantially complete and civil works are under way. Most orders for mechanical equipment are expected to be placed by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

The company has also completed a two-hole, 2,330 metre drilling programme at Roskear West, the first to test near-mine exploration targets. Both holes hit known tin lodes close to predicted positions, confirming mineralisation continues west beyond the current resource estimate, with one intersection of 0.79 metres at 4.18% tin.<\/p>\n

One hole also found a new high-grade tungsten zone, returning 8.58 metres at 1.41% tungsten, including 0.52 metres at 15.15% tungsten.<\/p>\n

South Crofty is permitted to begin underground mining and build a new processing facility. It is expected to produce about 4,700 tonnes of tin-in-concentrate a year in its first five years of full production.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
