The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group’s new passenger ferry has departed Vietnam on a two-month voyage to the UK.<\/p>\n
Scillonian IV left Ho Chi Minh City at 06:00 local time on 31 October, travelling via the Cape of Good Hope.<\/p>\n
The 75-metre vessel will call at Piriou’s shipyard in Brittany for a final survey before continuing to Penzance, where it is expected to enter service in March 2027.<\/p>\n
Ian Howard, chairman of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, said: “Watching Scillonian IV leave Vietnam and begin her journey home was a hugely significant moment for everyone involved in bringing the vessel to life.<\/p>\n
“Reaching this stage reflects the tremendous work, expertise and commitment of the teams who have overseen her construction and the many people who have contributed to the project.”<\/p>\n
The company says the vessel has capacity for 600 passengers and will replace Scillonian III.<\/p>\n
Scillonian IV is following the same route taken by the group’s freight vessel Menawethan earlier this year.<\/p>\n
The ship is expected to spend three weeks in Brittany, where the Steamship Group’s technical teams and crew members will continue preparations and begin familiarisation with the new vessel.<\/p>\n
Howard added: “We know how important Scillonian IV is to the future of the Isles of Scilly, and we’re excited to be one step closer to introducing her to the communities and visitors she will serve.”<\/p>\n
