Kimal boosted by Dubai trade show

MEDICAL devices company Kimal received a major boost to its Middle East ambitions when one of the world’s leading surgeons unveiled a key piece of new technology at a Dubai trade show.

The company, which has facilities in Bromsgrove and Droitwich, was exhibiting at Arab Heath 2010, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, as part of a drive to strengthen its presence in the region.

Present on the firm’s exhibition stand was Professor, the Lord Darzi of Denham, who unveiled the new NxStage System One Home Haemodialysis machine.

The home haemodialysis machine is being introduced into the Middle East on a targeted basis by Kimal. The company is initially focussing on two key areas in the region – Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Kimal’s strategy is to ensure the areas are fully covered for practical and clinical support before extending further into the region, possibly in early 2011.

It said it had been encouraged by the response it received during the trade show, with hundreds of inquiries for the NxStage System One.

The event proved fruitful in other ways, with the company collecting a clutch of awards including Export Achievement of the Year and Most Innovative Product. The latter, for the NxStage device, was presented by Lord Darzi.

Joseph Turk, senior vice president, Commercial Operations of NxStage Medical, said:  “It is a great honour to have the NxStage System One selected for this award, particularly given the impressive competition.

“This recognition underscores the positive role innovative and life-changing technology like the System One can play in addressing the clinical and economic challenges of delivering effective dialysis therapy to patients around the world.”

Kimal corporate marketing manager, Ken Findlay said the trade show had been a big success for the company and the hard work preparing for the event had paid off.

“It was a major honour for Kimal that Lord Darzi unveiled NxStage for us and then to receive three major awards during the week was brilliant,” he added.

The company is keen to build on this impact and has already booked to take part in next year’s event.
