Barclays set to open flagship retail bank in Birmingham city centre

BARCLAYS has signed a 15-year lease on new premises that will house its flagship retail branch in Birmingham city centre. 

The 15,000 square foot site on High Street will become the bank’s retail and local business divisions with about 40 staff. Walsall-born Michelle Smith has been appointed branch manager.

This latest investment follows that of the Bank’s Corporate division, which moved in to new office space at One Snowhill earlier this month.

Richard Smalley, retail director for Barclays in the Central region, said: “The regeneration and ongoing retail development that has been, and is continuing to, take place within Birmingham makes it an ideal location for our new flagship branch.”

The bank is expected to open the new High Street branch in April, followed by an official launch celebration in June 2010.
