Accountants expand for second time in six months

A WALSALL-based independent accountants has expanded its East Midlands operation for the second time in six months – with even more set to follow.

Baldwins, which already has a healthy presence in the West Midlands, has now acquired Long Eaton firm Harrison and Co.

This latest addition to the Baldwins stable will be based in the company’s new office in Attenborough, south west of Nottingham, alongside staff from Nottingham firm MHA Chartered Accountants which it bought in November.

The Nottingham office is headed by Richard Nowell, who was a partner at MHA, and the purchase was made with funding from NatWest.

John Baldwin, majority shareholder and son of the founder of Baldwins, said:  “We are very proud of our long and successful heritage and see Nottingham as an important part of our future.

“By bringing firstly MHA and now Harrison and Co into the Baldwin Group, we have great opportunities to grow our business, the level of investment in the acquisitions and new premises underline our commitment and aspirations locally.

“We have continued to expand through uncertain times as we offer cost effective solutions, with a hands on approach, which our clients value and need.

“With the support of NatWest we intend to continue our expansion throughout the Midlands over the short and medium term.”

Baldwins, which was founded in Walsall in 1971, also has offices in Stourbridge, Tamworth, Leamington Spa, Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Nuneaton.

It currently employs over 120 people and can boast more than 6,000 clients.

Geraint Regan, a business development director with NatWest, added: “Baldwins are a successful and growing accountancy practice who has an excellent reputation in the Midlands marketplace.

“The acquisitions of MHA Chartered Accountants and Harrison and Co will help establish the Baldwins business in Nottingham and underpins the shareholders’ commitment to support SME clients across both the East and West Midlands.

“I am delighted to have supported the shareholders on these acquisitions and I look forward to working with them on future projects.”
