Steatite group wins £3.5m export order with global comms firm

ELECTRONICS group Solid State, which owns Redditch-based rugged systems supplier Steatite, has secured a £3.5m export order from an unnamed communications provider.
Solid State, which supplies industrial/ruggedised computers, specialist electronic components and battery power solutions to the electronics market, said the contract was to supply in-vehicle rugged computers.
It said the contract was won after extensive consultation with the client on the required product specification and the decision to award the tender reflected Solid State’s strength in design-in, supply and support of bespoke applications.
The existing contract is for installation at two locations, while there is the potential of further orders for other locations in due course.
Solid State said the volume of the product to be supplied meant the order could be delivered at lower than normal average group margin, however, it added that as it would be delivered before September 30, 2012 it therefore fell within the group’s first half.
Solid State’s equipment is used in many of the world’s harshest environments. Markets include oil and gas production, medical, construction, security, military and field maintenance. The group also acts as both a distributor to OEMs and bespoke manufacturer of specialist units to clients with complex requirements.
Based in Kent, the group employs more than 100 staff across its four sites, which are divided into its two main divisions: Solid State Supplies and Steatite.
