Forward consults members over LEP strategy

BUSINESS representative organisation Birmingham Forward is undertaking a survey of its members before making a submission to the consultation launched by the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP over its future strategy.

The response will feature the views of the city’s professional sector and set out where this part of the business community believes the priorities for the LEP’s future activity should be focused.

Birmingham Forward chair Gary Cardin said: “We are delighted that the GBSLEP is taking the opportunity of this consultation to hear from the business community on their proposed strategy which could have a major impact on how business develops in the city region going forward.

“We are consulting our members on their thoughts on the draft white paper and although we wish to continue to be supportive of the LEP and to partner with them on key initiatives, we will not be afraid to be challenging in our response where we believe improvements or a different focus on the priorities laid out in the strategy will be needed.”

Earlier this month Lord Heseltine called for more responsibility for delivering economic growth to be devolved to the regions.

In his report No Stone Unturned, the former Deputy Prime Minister made 89 recommendations to inject stability into the economy, create the conditions for growth and maximise the potential of high growth businesses.
