BMET wins award for apprenticeship innovation

BIRMINGHAM Metropolitan College (BMET) has won the Most Innovative Apprenticeship Provider award at the National BTEC Awards.

The ceremony was held in recognition of the nearly one million students around the country who are studying BTEC qualifications this year. Pearson, which own Edexcel, the awarding body for BTECs, received more than 700 nominations across the 22 award categories for this year’s awards.

BMET’s win was based on its extensive provision of BTEC apprenticeship frameworks for 16-19 year-olds and adult learners, with apprenticeships and advanced apprenticeships delivered in multiple subjects including engineering, science, health and social care, creative and performing arts and ICT.

Working with global employers including Samsung Electronics, Caterpillar BCP and The Baxi Group, the college has established industry-led training academies both on-site and in the workplace.

Corrie Harris, executive director for business development at the college, said: “We remain committed to providing the best possible training experience for our learners from day one of their learning to after they have achieved their qualifications and have become work ready.”

The National BTEC Awards were hosted by Radio 1 DJ Matt Edmondson at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London and attended by winning students, teachers, and leaders in education.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson also spoke at the ceremony.
