Photo contest aims to put CBD in the frame

COLMORE Business District (CBD) has launched a new photographic competition to celebrate the architecture, history and community of Birmingham’s business quarter.

CBD Snapshot will run until November 30 and is open to anyone living, working or visiting the CBD area.

Each month all photographs submitted will be displayed on a gallery on the CBD website and the top three shots from each month will be shortlisted to be the annual overall winner.  Winning entries will also feature in a CBD calendar.

The shortlisted winners will be selected by the Snapshot judging panel which includes Marc Reeves, editor of TheBusinessDesk.com, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery’s business development and fundraising manager Hollie Smith-Charles and local photographer Jas Sansi.

Explaining the type of images he is looking out for Jas Sansi said: “Colmore Business District is Birmingham’s mini-Manhattan and Georgian Elegance combined. The architecture is breathtaking and a real asset to the city.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the images captured by the City’s eyes. Never forget, the camera is only a tool. It is the imagination, creativity and flair of an individual that makes a picture. Capture a life, a reaction or an emotion in a snap shot and you have my vote.”

Marc Reeves added that the competition was an enjoyable way of highlighting working life in Birmingham: “There’s no doubt the District has hidden architectural gems in abundance. The redbrick facades on Cornwall Street are among my favourites, and I’m sure we’ll see some stunning images of these.

“However, what makes the CBD really tick is the hustle and bustle of people doing business, and I really hope some of our snappers try to capture this.”

Talking about her involvement in the competition, Ms Smith-Charles commented: “I’m really looking forward to being involved in this unique competition and would urge everyone to take part for a chance to capture the sites and scenes of this bustling business environment.”

Full terms and conditions for the competition, including instructions on how to submit photographs can be found on the CBD website www.colmorebusinessdistrict.com
