Lifestyle: Dining – Birmingham’s Chung Ying rated one of UK’s best Chinese restaurants

BIRMINGHAM restaurant group Chung Ying has been awarded a Pagoda rating and a listing in The Legacy of Taste Eating Out Guide.
Chung Ying on Wrottesley Street and Chung Ying Garden on Thorp Street – both in Chinatown – are two of only 32 Chinese restaurants in the UK to be awarded such a rating and to be listed in the guide.
The guide is put out by Legacy of Taste, an organisation that specialises in rating Chinese restaurants in the UK. The Pagoda is a new restaurant accolade given to the best Chinese restaurants.
The Legacy of Taste judging panel, which consists of Michelin-starred Chinese chefs, Chinese TV chefs and experts on Chinese food and drink in the UK, rates the restaurants on authenticity of cooking methods and ingredients as well as service, general ambience and attention to detail.
Chung Ying owner James Wong said: “It’s great that the Chinese restaurant industry has its own benchmark rating system and that the popularity of Cantonese food continues to grow nationally.
“And of course it’s brilliant that Chung Ying continues to be recognised as one of the best Chinese restaurants in the country.”
In 2013, Chung Ying was declared the winner of the Best Chinese Restaurant in the Midlands at the Tsingtao Legacy of Taste awards.
The start of 2014 has seen the opening of a third site – Chung Ying Central on Colmore Row.
