Colliers tackles the ‘Way of the Roses’ for charity

A TEAM of nine cyclists from property consultancy Colliers International’s Birmingham office tackled the route of the Tour de France on the 237-mile Way of the Roses challenge, from Morecombe to Bridlington.

They raised £3,235 for charity.

The Way of the Roses is Colliers’ eighth annual charity cycle challenge, raising money for Cancer Research UK and The North West Children’s Support Group.

Since Colliers started supporting these charities in 2005, the national team has raised more than £132,000.

Participants cycled for three days, travelling from coast to coast through the tough terrain of the Pennine Mountains and the countryside of the Yorkshire Dales.

David Smeeton, head of Colliers’ Birmingham office, said: “Bradley Wiggins and the rest of the Tour de France competitors would be completing this exact route in their first few stages. It was therefore a massive accomplishment for all those involved.”

First Shaylor Group charity golf day heralded a success

ALDRIDGE- based contractor Shaylor Group has held its first annual ‘Fred Shaylor Golf Classic’ at Little Aston Golf Club.

Named after the late Chairman of Shaylor Group, who lost his fight to bowel cancer a year ago, the golf day was aimed at raising funds and awareness for Beating Bowel Cancer, Shaylor Group’s chosen charity.

Some 22 teams took place, with players coming from all over the British Isles to compete in the 18 hole competition. Funds were also raised by a Mulligan Sale, double point ball sale and prize auction which took place during the evening’s awards dinner at the club.

Tournament prizes included new cars from both Arbury Peugeot and Volkswagen and items up for auction ranged from match day hospitality at Aston Villa FC to a tour and lunch at the House of Lords.

Jan Shaylor, widow of late chairman Fred Shaylor and Shaylor Group’s charity and events co-ordinator, said:  “All the volunteers from Shaylor Group who contributed to running the day were amazing. Fred would have been very proud and thrilled at the end result.”

The day raised in excess of £12,000.
