Council pledges minimum disruption from Telford road works

THE ongoing £11.8m highways improvements in Telford town centre are set to cause further disruption to motorists.
The Lawn Central part of the town’s box road will be closed for five nights next week. However, the work has been planned so it causes minimum disruption to drivers and businesses.
Lawn Central is part of the transport scheme to make the town centre box road two way so that it is safer for pedestrians and cyclists and to improve the access to the new £250m Southwater development and Asda supermarket.
The latest closure will see Lawn Central closed between 8pm and 6am from its junction with Woodhouse Central to its junction with Hollinsgate from Monday October 20 to Saturday October 25.
A diversion will be put in place via Forge Gate, Rampart Way and Hollinsgate.
Work to make the box road two-way will be completed by March 2015 and Telford & Wrekin Council said that while every effort was be taken to minimise the impact during construction some road and lane closures would be needed in order to maintain access and safe working.
Cllr Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for Transport, said: “We would like to apologise for any disruption but this is all essential work that is part of the broader box road scheme.”
