Birmingham ‘jumper’ chaos ends after 29-hour standoff

OVER 29 hours of congestion and clogged city centre roads finally came to an end after a stand-off between police and a man threatening to jump off a bridge in Birmingham ended with his arrest.
The incident, at Paradise Circus close to the central library, wreaked chaos on the city centre for thousands of people trying to go about their work.
West Midlands Police said in a statement it had arrested a man for public nuisance offences at 9.45pm last night.
It followed a long vigil by crisis negotiators who moved in when they saw an opportunity to take the man into custody.
All roads around the incident have now been reopened.
