Over-running roadworks cause motorway misery for thousands of motorists

THOUSANDS of motorists using one of the busiest sections of motorway in the West Midlands faced long delays to their journeys today due to over-running roadworks.

Early commuters were left with delays to their journeys approaching an hour this morning because of the closure of the M42’s connection with the southbound M6.

The section of road affected was the M42 southbound between junction 9 at Curdworth and junction 8, the link to the M6.

The problem caused widespread congestion with queues stretching back to junction 10 at Tamworth, while traffic exiting the M6 Toll was also affected.

All lanes have now re-opened but as of 8am there were reports of delays around 30 minutes to normal journey times because of the build-up of traffic for the Monday morning rush-hour.

The roadworks are part of the long-running upgrade to the M42 in Warwickshire.
