Quadnetics acquires battlefield electronics specialist

ADVANCED surveillance technology and security firm Quadnetics Group has acquired the entire issued share capital of Persides Technology Limited.

The £260,000 deal sees the Studley-based company acquire a specialist in advanced battlefield electronic monitoring systems and ruggedised hand-held digital video systems for use in extreme environments.

Persides is an existing technology partner to Quadnetics’ defence business, ‘Synectics Defence Systems’, which is based in Sheffield.

The Warwickshire company said it had played an important role in the development of Synectics’ latest generation radio frequency detection system, Chili, which will be launched early this year and had already attracted international interest.

Last month, Quadnetics announced that trading had been “somewhat below expectations” in a post-year trading update to the City.

In a statement, Quadnetics added: “The acquisition of PTL will augment Synectics’ core intellectual property in the defence market and will enable the group to retain greater margin on sales of Chili.

“In addition, the group’s greater financial strength and sales capability should enable sales of (hand-held cameras) VEEcam to significantly increase through Synectics’ existing market channels.”

Chief executive John Shepherd added: “The acquisition of PTL is a significant step forward in the restructuring and repositioning of our defence activities and opens up new market opportunities for the Group.”
