Squire Sanders Hammonds ponders further growth and a rebrand

NEWLY created global law firm Squire Sanders Hammonds is pondering further acquisitions and a re-brand, it was revealed last night at a reception in Birmingham to celebrate its recent merger.
Joe Markoski, the firm’s European regional co-ordinator told TheBusinessDesk.com that its partners conference to be held in Orlando in March would bring together senior players from the former Hammonds offices in the UK and their US counterparts from the former Squire Sanders Dempsey.
“The merger has been a very rapid process,” Mr Markoski said, “and we expect that we’ll be revealing a new brand identify for the firm in Orlando. We want to signal something new, but something that represents the shared culture of the two firms.”
The partners had further ambitions for acquisition, he said: “There are some gaps in our territory, even in the US. Australia, Korea and the Middle East are also of interest to us.”
The reception, held at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, was opened by the firm’s Birmingham head, Nick Green, and Birmingham City Council leader Mike Whitby told attendees the merger was symbolic of the city’s rich links with the US.
He said: “On the day the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced the creation of 8,000 jobs by the High Speed Two rail link to the city, our credential as a connected, global city have never been higher. With a law firm that spans so many countries and cities, Birmingham has a lot to offer with its rail and air links.”
The merger has created a firm which now has 1,275 lawyers in 37 offices spread across 17 different countries. Mr Marksoski said the firms shared similar heritages and cultures, with roots in the industrial heartlands of the UK and the US, and an emphasis on their people and customers.
