NEC Group persuades trade expo to relocate from the North

THE NEC Group has strengthened its exhibitions package by persuading organisers of a major trade event to end a long-standing allegiance and relocate to the Midlands showpiece complex.
SURFEXPlus is the UK’s largest exhibition for the surface coatings, printing inks, adhesives, corrosion and construction chemicals industries.
It has been based at either Harrogate or Manchester every other year since 1986. However, after conducting an in-depth exhibitor survey, organiser SURFEX has now opted to switch the National Exhibition Centre for the first time.
Chris Pacey-Day, company secretary of SURFEX, said: “We’re delighted to be working with The NEC team. Their support and desire, throughout various departments, to work with us, helping to develop the event has been a major deciding factor in the relocation.”
To coincide with the relocation, the event, which takes place May 29-30, 2012, is to undergo a makeover with a view to broadening its appeal and attracting both new visitors and exhibitors.
“A key consideration in the move was location – The NEC has a perfect central UK location – this supported by the surrounding infrastructure, with physical connections to Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International means it couldn’t be easier for people to get to us,” added Mr Pacey-Day.
Chris Hartley, head of new business, The NEC Group, said: “At a time where the show’s going to see big changes, we’re thrilled that SURFEX has chosen The NEC as their partner.
“It is not just about providing a space anymore. The NEC team work in collaboration with many clients, including trade associations, member organisations and corporates, supporting them across various elements of a show’s planning and execution.”
