New alliance at Axis and other property lettings

LETTINGS for more than 110,000 sq ft have been secured at the Axis Building in central Birmingham.

The Department for Communities and Local Government has taken 39,000 sq ft of space at the 11-storey office tower, next to the city’s Mailbox complex, for a 10-year lease at an undisclosed sum.

In addition, engineering and design consultancy Atkins has renewed its lease by a further 10 years, taking 75,000 sq ft, although this is reduction on space it currently occupies.

Leeds-based property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall acted for the building’s owners BRB (Residuary), the residuary body of the British Railways Board, the Birmingham office of DTZ acted for the DCLG while Atkins represented itself.

In other lettings news, Midland Cleaning Supplies has moved into new premises on Gravelly Industrial Park in north Birmingham.

Acting on behalf of Standard Life Investments, DTZ’s Birmingham industrial agency team agreed the letting of the 2,350 sq ft Unit 73.

Midland Cleaning Supplies was formed in 1994 and previously based in Hockley Heath. This move has created two new jobs.

Tim Cleverley from the firm added: “We have experienced sustained growth in the last few years, largely due to our online business and required new premises to support our expansion plans.”

Finally, Birmingham-based consultancy KWB has secured a new tenant at the Eagle Court office scheme in Solihull.

Electrical supplies distributor Rexel UK has taken 8,738 sq ft at Eagle 2 as part of its UK restructuring programme.

It has signed 10-year lease for what will become the base for its Newey & Eyre division.

KWB Workplace has also been retained to assist in the office space planning and procurement of fit-out works.
