Icing on cake in former solicitor’s new venture

A FORMER trainee solicitor who used to work for a Birmingham law firm has launched her own cake making business.

Rebecca Chitty left her job at Wragge & Co earlier this year to form Chitty’s Cake Company to offer specialist occasion cakes and cupcakes as well as a wedding service.

The 26-year-old is also trying to build customer loyalty by running a subscription-style service to cupcake lovers with a new flavour of the month on offer.

Since its launch, the company has produced a range of weird and wonderful creations including a cake that looks like a cheese platter, the door of 10 Downing Street, cartoon characters and a New York skyline.

Ms Chitty said she hoped her creations would appear at local markets in and around Birmingham in the future and wanted to eventually open a small shop.

She is also running cake decoration classes in a city centre pub.

“The idea to offer decorating classes was also born out of my former experiences working in the city,” she said.

“I know that companies often struggle to come up with original corporate entertaining and teambuilding activities so our classes aim to cater for this requirement.

“It’s also a great way for individuals to meet new people as they have fun learning a new skill.”
