NatWest calorie burn nets Acorns £2,000

A TEAM from NatWest’s Commercial Banking team in St Philips Place, Birmingham, pushed themselves through the pain barrier to raise vital funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice. Manjeet Sandhu and seven colleagues took part in an epic calorie burn at Virgin Active in Edgbaston. In the process of burning off a combined 9,000 calories, the team raised £2.151 for the hospice fund. Manjeet said: “Acorns provides important support for children and young people, and it was important to give them some help. This was the fourth time we have undertaken a calorie burn challenge and we know it is a great way to raise money whilst getting into shape. We are delighted that the money raised will help the charity help others and we want to thank our friends, colleagues, customers and the team at Virgin Active Edgbaston for their kind and generous support.”

Challinors solicitor back in the saddle for charity bike ride

JOLYON Canlin, a criminal law associate with Challinors is taking part in the grueling Cardiff to Holyhead cycle race to raise money for Help for Heroes and Cancer Research. The 250-mile Lon Las event takes place over five days later this month. Mr Canlin, who will be joined by four of his friends for the event, is aiming to raise £1,500 for the good causes. The journey includes stages through the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia, before cycling through Carnarvon on day four and then on the final day, through Holyhead. The ride is being tackled by the group ‘unsupported’, which means they will each carry their own water, food, clothing and supplies. To get into training for the event, the cyclists have been riding an average of 30 miles road cycling every day, with a minimum 50-mile cycle session at weekends, as well as some work in the gym.

Young professionals pit their wits for good causes

YOUNG surveyors, accountants and solicitors from across the West Midlands pitted their wits during a quiz evening in Birmingham that raised more than £750 for charity. The inter-professional quiz night, the first of its kind to be held in the Midlands, saw the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in Birmingham take on Birmingham Chartered Accountant Students’ Society (BCASS) and Birmingham Trainee Solicitors Society (BTSS) at Highlights bar in Broad Street. Almost 200 young professionals took part, split into 38 teams. BCASS were the eventual winners, ahead of RICS and BTSS. Half of the fundraising total is being donated to BCASS’s chosen charity, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, with the remaining funds being split equally between Birmingham Foundation and the Marie Curie Cancer Trust.
