Business leaders updated on policy implications of Bin Laden’s death

A UNIVERSITY of Birmingham professor is to outline to business leaders in the city how international foreign policy is likely to develop following the death of Osama Bin Laden.
Former journalist Scott Lucas, who is now Professor of American Studies at the university, has been invited to speak by the British American Business Council.
He said: “Bin Laden was yesterday’s man and Al Qa’eda yesterday’s movement, especially in the light of the recent developments in North Africa and the Middle East.
“At the same time, the US faces serious situations in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Bin Laden’s death does not alleviate them.
“To the contrary, it has highlighted tensions in US policy and strategy, including the US-Pakistani relationship and the US military presence in Afghanistan.”
Prof Lucas will be examining the implications of the terrorist leader’s death on corporate life both within the borders of the US, and internationally.
The seminar, which takes tomorrow (Thursday), is free to both members and non-members of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group. It begins at 8.30am at Chamber House, Harborne Road, Edgbaston.
