Employment legislation provides new business opportunities

CHANGES to employment legislation are providing growth opportunities for West Midland law firms and recruitment agencies.

Two to capitalise on opportunities offered by the new Agency Workers Regulations are Leamington Spa based solicitors Wright Hassall and recruitment agency Katie Bard, which has an office in Birmingham.

The two firms are pooling their expertise to stage a series of seminars highlighting to businesses what the changes in legislation will mean to the way they work.

The regulations, which will come into force in October, give UK agency workers the same basic rights and benefits as those employed directly, provided they have been in the same role, under the same hirer, for 12 weeks.

The seminars, which take place at re offices of Wright Hassall and the Malmaison Hotel in Birmingham’s Mailbox later this month, will address the practical implementation of the new legislation.

Kam Vara, divisional leader at Katie Bard, said: “The new Agency Workers Regulations will have a significant impact on the way companies recruit and it is important everyone knows how they will be affected by them as it not long now until they come into force.

“The seminars will be of particular importance to those within the HR professional as well as managers and directors of businesses which use agency staff.

“It is great we have been able to combine our knowledge of the recruitment industry and the new regulations with a well respected law firm in Wright Hassall and will allow us to provide in-depth analysis of what the changes will mean, from both points of view.”
