Carillion secures £390m Canada contract

WOLVERHAMPTON-based support services firm Carillion has been appointed preferred bidder on a £390m joint venture hospital project in Canada.

The contract will see Carillion inject £28m worth of equity into the scheme to finance, design, build and maintain a new replacement Oakville Hospital, in Ontario.

The JV is called ‘Hospital Infrastructure Partners’ and comprises Infrastructure Ontario, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Halton Healthcare Services.

The project will be delivered using an alternative financing and procurement model, which is similar to the UK’s public/private partnership model, and is expected to reach financial close this summer.

Carillion will carry out the construction work and provide facilities management and life-cycle maintenance services over a 30-year period, which it expects will generate approximately £390m of revenue for the Black Country firm.

Construction will begin immediately after financial close and be completed in 2015.

Carillion chief executive John McDonough said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred bidder for this important new hospital, which further reinforces our position as a leader in delivering public private partnership projects in Canada, particularly in the health sector.

“We look forward to working with Infrastructure Ontario and Halton Healthcare Services to achieve financial close and then to deliver this new state of the art hospital, for which we will also provide facilities management and maintenance services.”
